{"id":23,"date":"2008-01-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-30T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-01-30T14:59:40","modified_gmt":"2008-01-30T19:59:40","slug":"our-orphanage-privilege","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/2008\/01\/30\/our-orphanage-privilege\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Orphanage Privilege"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our little family has had the extreme joy of volunteering two to four times a month at a local orphanage.&nbsp; What a blessing this has been!&nbsp; The children of Jeruel, a local children&#8217;s home, have captured our hearts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each time we visit, we try to come up with a creative way to brighten their lives.&nbsp; At this point we don&#8217;t know enough Spanish to clearly communicate spiritual truth with words &#8230;so we are showing them what spiritual truth looks like with skin on.&nbsp; Each time we visit we play games, talk, help with homework, smile a lot and show genuine interest in each child.&nbsp; We also give LOTS of hugs.<\/p>\n<p>This week when we visited, I looked around at the children interacting with one another and realized there was very little physical contact.&nbsp; It was no wonder, then, that there were two children plastered to me, one on each side, and that there was another one standing in front of me, stroking my hair.&nbsp; It was also no surprise that there were about ten more standing as close as they could to me without running over their friends who were already hugging me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What a gift it is to feel loved.&nbsp; I have often thanked God for my amazing parents, but I think today is the first time in my life that I thanked God for parents who hugged me.&nbsp; It is a new goal of mine to hug as many children as I can each time I go to Jeruel.&nbsp; If I am part of Christ&#8217;s body, I want that body to give hugs.&nbsp; These kids are starved for affection.&nbsp; I want to love them.&nbsp; In doing so, perhaps their little hearts can soften to their Savior&#8217;s love.<\/p>\n<p>Pray with us that the day will come soon that we will have the skill in Spanish to be able to clearly communicate God&#8217;s love to them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volunteering at Jeruel has been a huge blessing &#8230;not just to the children of the orphanage, but to us as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-23","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","entry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=23"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=23"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=23"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/aaron-knapp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=23"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
