Drawing closer to teach the Bible

August 20, 2025 by Aaron and Amy Speitelsbach

In 2021 our Coworker Guy passed his language check and joined Aaron in developing Bible lessons. That sped up the process a lot. Amy continued to look over the lessons and gave input to what could be improved. She also took the lessons to read them to locals and see if they would be understood they way they are intended to be understood. Miscommunication happens so easily in daily live. Even more so, when trying to communicate cross culturally. You may watch an old you tube video, language in context, which illustrates that nicely.

That being said, by the end of 2023 we had about all of the 60 lessons drafted that we wanted to teach. They would start in Genesis, give an overview of the redemption plan of God and end with Revelation. The plan was to start teaching the lessons early 2024, when our coworkers would be back from their home assignment.

Up to that point things were far from easy. Living in a remote area in subtropical Africa, where survival often is first priority, needs and problems are endless. Not only for ourselves, but for locals as well, who then will often knock on our door for help. It can be as simple as giving out some rice, or a Malaria treatment. But sometime is could also mean to drive a pregnant woman in the middle of the night 3 1/2h to the nearest hospital because she is having difficulties with the delivery. That would not be that bad in itself, if the roads and bridges to our village would be in a decent shape.

Needless to say, it is not only the locals who are struggling but we as well. Wanting to quit crosses our mind every now and then. But giving up, we have not considered as an option yet. Why? Because we believe that God loves the Glaro and that he wants them to know him and have fellowship with him. And somehow we feel that he wants us to be involved in helping them understand God’s message.
One thing is for sure, if it were not for God’s love for the Glaro, we could care less about ministering in this place.
