Last Friday night right after the power went off (it goes off every night around 9:30 p.m.) we began to hear some people yelling “socorro!” Due to the security risk, the men of campus were a little hesitant to go check it out (there has been pirating…people getting robbed while on the river). However, the yelling continued and the men decided that it needed to be checked out….so they got a number of men & a number of high school boys & got on the big boat and headed down river. Praise the Lord it was NOT the pirates! However, they also did not find the people who needed help. So we were all wondering, “was it real?” “Did someone really need help?” “What was going on?” Ect. The next day we found out.
This helicopter landed here to meet up with the firefighters that were out searching for a man who was on the boat. The boat had 9 men on it when it broke apart. 8 of them were able to hold on to large pieces that were still floating downriver. These were the men we heard yelling for help. At some point, one man decided to try to swim for shore. Unfortunately he didn’t get rescued with the other 8. We found out much later that the one man was found farther down river and that he had drowned. We don’t know, but we hope that he knew of the ONE TRUE HELP in this world.
