Learning, Laughing & Leisure

Not long ago we had the privilege of being a part of our annual get together.  It’s a time when as many of the missionaries on our field that can, comes together for a time of learning, laughing and leisure.

I’m not gonna lie, some years I did not enjoy it at all.  But this year was different.  This I year I decided that despite my Portuguese (our field is primarily Brazilians…so everything is in Portuguese.  EVERYTHING), I was just going to go to the lessons and do my best to understand, I was going to get out of the house during free time and visit with others (and just talk and talk until they understood me! [in Portuguese]) and I was just going to RELAX and not worry what anyone thought.  And you know what, I had a great time!  I DID learn.  I DID laugh.  And I DID enjoy my leisure time with others.

So this year, like many of our co-workers (approx. 200!), I enjoyed it.

I’m so thankful our field does this.  A lot of our co-workers work in areas where they stay for 3 months at a time.  Some teams have 2-4 couples, but other teams are just one couple working alone with a people group.  This time is such an encouragement for them to get to share with others who are in the same type of ministry.  And for those of us who help in support roles, it’s a great time for us to hear how the different works are going.

Needless to say, from here on out, my goal will be to do the same.  Learn.  Laugh.  And enjoy leisure when I can.  And that’s my hope for you too.  Learn.  Laugh.  And take time for leisure.
