He knows what we need….

August 15, 2012 by Angela Ketcham

even BEFORE we know we need it!

A couple weeks ago we were faced with a serious & scary situation.  Our oldest son, Ethan, was stung by a blue-winged wasp.  When he first approached me & told me he got stung, I didn’t worry.  He’d been stung by bees before.  No big deal.

Ethan's list of allergies: Cashew Trees (when in bloom) & the Blue Winged Wasp

As he neared, I asked if it was on his eye (he already had a mark there).  He said no, it was on the top of his head. Hmmmm. While he was answering my question, I had looked away (to turn off some music), when I looked back, his WHOLE face had already started to swell….his ears, his eyes, lips, neck, cheeks…everything.  So off we run home to get allergy meds.  He pops a pill & hops in the shower (by now I know he’s going to need to go to the hospital…it’s down his neck & moving to his arms and chest). If you want have an idea of what it was like, check out anaphylactic shock on Google…I didn’t take pictures during this time due to the situation (okay, maybe I was panicking just a little bit).

For any parent, this would be scary.  I know it was for us!  What made it worse was that we are over an hour away from a hospital.  But God knew.  He already had it all worked out.

When Joel got home (he was working on something on another part of campus…Summer went & got him) to get ready to take Ethan to the hospital, we decided to try calling a missionary friend who is a doctor.  She felt that Ethan was in need of meds NOW…there wouldn’t be time to get to the hospital.  And wouldn’t you know, our neighbors had just bought the wrong kind of meds for their daughter the DAY BEFORE (our missionry docoter friend told us) & it was JUST what we needed for Ethan.

His provision!

So even though we didn’t know Ethan is severly allergic to blue-winged wasps, and even though we didn’t have time to go to the hospital, and even though we didn’t have an Epi-pen (we acually used a syringe & a vial of medicine)….GOD knew.  And HE had it all worked out for us.  Because HE loves us.  And HE has a plan for our lives.  I’m soooooo thankful this story turned out well- Ethan is fine.  I know that sometimes we don’t get what we want….loved ones die, people get hurt, there is suffering in the world.  But I also know that my SAVIOR loves me & my family far more than I can begin to comprehend! That will be TRUE no matter what the future holds!
