{"id":352,"date":"2011-08-19T09:55:45","date_gmt":"2011-08-19T13:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-ketcham\/?p=352"},"modified":"2011-08-19T09:55:45","modified_gmt":"2011-08-19T13:55:45","slug":"2-years-in-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/angela-ketcham\/2011\/08\/19\/2-years-in-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Years in Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other day I read a post from a fellow missionary wife that I enjoyed.\u00a0 She was talking about the things she has learned (or not) in the three months that she&#8217;s lived in Papua New Guinea.\u00a0 So it got me to thinking&#8230;what have I learned (or not)?\u00a0 So here&#8217;s my list (just for fun)&#8230;.<\/p>\n<address><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">I have learned:<\/span><\/address>\n<address>*that some people don&#8217;t sweat that much<\/address>\n<address>*other people sweat MORE THAN you can imagine<\/address>\n<address>*<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">everyone<\/span> stinks when living here (unless they JUST took a shower) and you just have to &#8216;get over&#8217; worrying about it<\/address>\n<address>*there are<strong> A LOT<\/strong> of different kinds of fungus that can\u00a0grow on a person&#8217;s body<\/address>\n<address>*just about anything can be cooked from scratch (that means <strong>without<\/strong>canned or boxed ingred.s too!)<\/address>\n<address>*I do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>not<\/strong><\/span> like cooking from scratch all the time.<\/address>\n<address>*When you go shopping, you better have pleanty of time&#8230;it once took me 45mins just to get through the line at a store.\u00a0 Oh, and there were only <strong>4<\/strong>people in front of me&#8230;and no, they did not have an unordarinary amout of stuff either.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just the way it is.\u00a0<\/address>\n<address>*I enjoy flicking gekkos off our screen windows.\u00a0 (There&#8217;s just something about seeing them flying into the grass!)<\/address>\n<address>*how to not care if there are just a few ants in my drink\/food&#8230;it just adds a little protein.<\/address>\n<address><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">I have <strong>not<\/strong> learned:<\/span><\/address>\n<address>\n<address>*how to make all the yummy things I want to eat, from scratch<\/address>\n<\/address>\n<address>*how to catch the slimy little frogs that come in our house (I make the kids get them for me)<\/address>\n<address>*how to go back to sleep without killing the GIANT cockroach I just saw (what if it climbs onto our bed?!)<\/address>\n<address>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 -One night I got up to use the restroom and saw a cockroack.\u00a0 It was HUGE!\u00a0 Of course I didn&#8217;t have any shoes on.\u00a0 So I run to get one to kill it.\u00a0 It runs from me &amp; actually makes it under the bed.\u00a0 Unfortunally, we have a couple of things under there and I can&#8217;t get to it.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m shinning my flashlight all around, moving pillows and climbing over Joel (who is still sleeping).\u00a0 He eventually wakes up and asks me what&#8217;s going on.\u00a0 I explain the problem and he says I need to just forget it.\u00a0 So out of love &amp; devotion for my dear hubby, I give up.\u00a0 But I can&#8217;t sleep.\u00a0 I end up having to tuck my sheet over my head and all around me in order to fall asleep&#8230;I just couldn&#8217;t bear the thought of that thing making it&#8217;s way up on the bed!\u00a0 If he (the cockroach) did make it up there, he could have Joel- NOT Me!<\/address>\n<address>\n<figure id=\"attachment_353\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-353\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-353\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-ketcham\/files\/2011\/08\/DSCF2400.JPG\" alt=\"Giant Cockroach\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/angela-ketcham\/files\/2011\/08\/DSCF2400.JPG 320w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/angela-ketcham\/files\/2011\/08\/DSCF2400-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-353\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Giant Cockroach- just imagine it&#39;s length being the size of your pointer finger and the width being two fingers...I forgot to put something next to it to show the actual size.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/address>\n<address><\/address>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The other day I read a post from a fellow missionary wife that I enjoyed.\u00a0 She was talking about the things she has learned (or not) in the three months that she&#8217;s lived in Papua New Guinea.\u00a0 So it got me to thinking&#8230;what have I learned (or not)?\u00a0 So here&#8217;s my list (just for fun)&#8230;.
