Watching Hosanna grow, especially these last couple months has been such a privilege! She is so engaging and interactive with the world around her. Recently, after 6 months of a milk-only diet, we started introducing solid food. This has mostly led to a hilarious mess more than a meal, but it has had me thinking about the principle of spiritual milk and solid food in the Bible.
Hebrews, chapter 5 says, “12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers …you need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature…” When a person becomes a Christian they begin with basic truths or “spiritual milk.” Then, like Hosanna, they ought to progress to “solid food” or deeper truths of God. Christians are never meant to live on spiritual milk for their whole lives.
The goal back then, the goal now, and the goal always in missions is maturity in Christ. We want to see the people of Papua New Guinea believe the gospel message, be born again, and just as importantly, become mature in Christ. We would love to translate the Bible into a language that does not yet have it. That way the baby Christians will have spiritual milk to drink and the maturing Christians will have solid food to eat.
Lord willing, all of you, through your prayers and support, will be a part of the process of a new church in Papua New Guinea growing to maturity in Christ. What an incredible privilege! Please pray for us as we prepare for this goal. Pray that God will provide the monthly support we need. Pray that He will be maturing us both individually and as a family.
Grace and Peace,
Anthony and Kara Linn Haskins
