First Christmas in Amdu

December 24, 2013 by Bart and Emily Allen

As we celebrate our first Christmas living in the Amdu tribe, we rejoice in the gift of our Savior Jesus Christ. At the same time, we look forward to when our Amdu friends will also be able to hear and read God’s Word and learn of God’s amazing plan of salvation!

Last week an old man not far from our village died. He is the first person who has died during the time that our family has been living here in the tribe. His death was a vivid reminder and challenge to us of the urgency and importance of what the Lord has us here to do. Before our team can share God’s message with these people we must be able to speak their language and understand their culture. It is not an easy job but we know it is worth it.

Away from the commercial hype of Christmas, we are enjoying this time of celebration with our family and our teammates. We have been reflecting on all the things that were foretold about the Savior’s birth and how those were fulfilled in Jesus. God does what He says He will do!!

As you celebrate Christmas this year, will you commit to praying this coming year for the Amdu people who are still living in darkness? Pray that our team will be able to learn this complex language. Pray for good, meaningful relationships between us and the people in our village and the surrounding villages in this language group. Pray that our Amdu friends would live to be able to hear the Truth of God’s Word!!

Merry Christmas from the Allen’s in Papua New Guinea.
