First Amdu Literacy Class

October 21, 2017 by Bart and Emily Allen

October 2, 2017 was a historic day in our Amdu village. The first ever Amdu Literacy Class began!! Class one is made up of a wide range of students – some who know how to read and write in the trade language of Melanesian Pidgin, some who have had a little bit of schooling, and finally some others who are totally illiterate.

Our team with the first Amdu literacy class

We are now in the fourth week of class, and it is exciting to see the students catching on. Some are getting it much more slowly than others, but we are praying that even the slow ones will be able to learn to read and write. Please pray for our team as we prepare and teach each day. Please pray for our older students who are having a harder time. For some of them, this is the first time in their life to do any kind of schooling.

Class is held each weekday from 7-9 am. We expect that our first class will run 4+ months.

Thank you for praying for our team!! Check back periodically – we will post new pictures and updates as we are able.
