{"id":14,"date":"2007-07-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-14T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-07-14T21:21:52","modified_gmt":"2007-07-15T01:21:52","slug":"we-and-they","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bart-allen\/2007\/07\/14\/we-and-they\/","title":{"rendered":"We and They"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartImportPhoto--><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bart-allen\/files\/2007\/07\/newsAP(3831)_img.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-104\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;margin-bottom: 5px\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bart-allen\/files\/2007\/07\/newsAP(3831)_img.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><!--EndImportPhoto--><\/p>\n<p>Many years ago (okay, probably 10), while we were just dating, Bart shared this poem with me.&nbsp; I was getting ready to leave for a summer in Bangladesh and I was about to encounter a whole different way of life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As you read this poem, think about how <u>you<\/u>&nbsp;view &quot;They.&quot;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>We and They<\/em><\/strong> by Rudyard Kipling<\/p>\n<p>Father and Mother, and Me, <br \/>\nSister and Auntie say <br \/>\n<span class=\"redText\">All the people like us are We, <br \/>\nAnd every one else is They. <br \/>\nAnd They live over the sea, <br \/>\nWhile We live over the way, <br \/>\nBut-would you believe it? &#8211;They look upon We <br \/>\nAs only a sort of They!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\nWe eat pork and beef <br \/>\nWith cow-horn-handled knives. <br \/>\nThey who gobble Their rice off a leaf, <br \/>\nAre horrified out of Their lives; <br \/>\nWhile they who live up a tree, <br \/>\nAnd feast on grubs and clay, <br \/>\n(Isn&#8217;t it scandalous? ) look upon We <br \/>\nAs a simply disgusting They! <\/p>\n<p>We shoot birds with a gun. <br \/>\nThey stick lions with spears. <br \/>\nTheir full-dress is un-. <br \/>\nWe dress up to Our ears. <br \/>\nThey like Their friends for tea. <br \/>\nWe like Our friends to stay; <br \/>\nAnd, after all that, They look upon We <br \/>\nAs an utterly ignorant They! <\/p>\n<p>We eat kitcheny food. <br \/>\nWe have doors that latch. <br \/>\nThey drink milk or blood, <br \/>\nUnder an open thatch. <br \/>\nWe have Doctors to fee. <br \/>\nThey have Wizards to pay. <br \/>\nAnd (impudent heathen!)
