You Asked: Where is Papua New Guinea?!

July 1, 2013 by BJ and Jill Sanders

We are starting a new “series” where we will be answering questions that many of you have been asking.  If there’s something that you’re just dying to get answered, email us your question and we will probably write a blog about it!

So, the first question is: “Where in the world is Papua New Guinea?!?!?”

Papua New Guinea is located on an island right above Australia.  Papua New Guinea is on the east side of the island and Indo is on the west.

“The country’s geography is diverse and, in places, extremely rugged. A spine of mountains, the New Guinea Highlands, runs the length of the island of New Guinea, forming a populous highlands region mostly covered with tropical rainforest. Dense rainforests can be found in the lowland and coastal areas as well as very large wetland areas surrounding the Sepik river. This terrain has made it difficult for the country to develop transportation infrastructure. In some areas, airplanes are the only mode of transport.” Thanks Wikipedia!

So once we get to the city and learn the language, we will prayerfully decide on which region to go to: highlands, sepik, or islands!
