YOU ASKED: How much?!

August 16, 2013 by BJ and Jill Sanders

After we tell people what we are doing and the amount of time and energy it will take to reach a tribe, they inevitably ask…how much will this cost?  Our answer…$8,500 a month!  When we first got asked this question, we would sheepishly mumble “a lot.”  Now, we confidently say it, knowing that no amount is too large for God to provide (Psalm 24).

So why does it cost so much?!  Well…simply put…everything is EXPENSIVE in Papua New Guinea!  First of all, most things are imported from other countries.  Then, we not only have to pay for these goods, but also to have them flown into the jungle.  Here are some examples: $10 for a gallon of milk, $6 for a jar of peanut butter, $75 for a gallon of paint, $23 for a quart of oil (and don’t forget about the price of flying all these items out to our location)…are you starting to understand?  (If you want a broken down spreadsheet of our budget, we would be glad to show that to you!)

So how close to this number are we?  We are sitting right at 36%!  It’s been so great to see our monthly support level increase 29% since January!  And we know God has a lot more up his sleeve!  We always say, “We don’t know who the Lord is going to use to provide, but we know He’s going to do it!”  We definitely cannot reach this tribe alone.  We need people praying for us EVERY day!  We need people encouraging us through email, phone, or care packages!  We need more monthly supporters like the ones pictured below!  We cannot do it alone!!  And it’s so exciting to see who else God is going to use to bring HIM glory!
