{"id":156,"date":"2012-05-03T09:25:47","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T15:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/?p=156"},"modified":"2012-05-03T09:28:29","modified_gmt":"2012-05-03T15:28:29","slug":"a-tip-or-a-bribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/2012\/05\/03\/a-tip-or-a-bribe\/","title":{"rendered":"A Tip or a Bribe?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our training here in the last few weeks we have been discussing some things that we have never had to think about before!\u00a0 Between our Romans 12-14 class and our Culture\/Language Methodology class, we had to face some hard issues.\u00a0 Like, <em>how can you tell the difference between a tip and a bribe?\u00a0 <\/em>For example, our instructor bought his plane ticket to fly from Nigeria to go <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_17691.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-161 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_17691.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_17691.jpg 2323w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_17691-300x114.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/bj-sanders\/files\/2012\/05\/IMG_17691-1024x392.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/a>back home.\u00a0 Of course, he had purchased his ticket and when he tried to get on the plane the airline employee smiles and says, &#8220;Your name is not on the list!&#8221;\u00a0 Confused, he replies,&#8221;But I have my ticket!&#8221;\u00a0 Well, your name is not on the list.\u00a0 At that time, the missionary realized the man wanted a little something extra&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>So, is that a &#8220;tip&#8221; or a &#8220;bribe?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This same missionary, on other day, was driving down the pothole-covered roads trying to get to Dakar to take care of some paperwork.\u00a0 So, he had lost count of how many times he stopped at a checkpoint to show his paperwork.\u00a0 Now, the attendant was asking for his &#8220;yellow fever card.&#8221;\u00a0 [The missionary was well aware that this was not a required document to have on hand] After disputing for what seemed an hour, he realized that the man simply wanted his &#8220;tip.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t tell you all the answers&#8230;
