(1\/2 stick) unsalted butter<br \/>\n1 2\/3 c. boiling water<br \/>\n2 1\/3 c. unbleached all-purpose flour<br \/>\n2 c. sugar<br \/>\n\u00bd c. sour cream<br \/>\n2 large eggs<br \/>\n2 tsp. baking soda<br \/>\n1 tsp. salt<br \/>\n1 tsp. vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"redText\">For the chocolate fudge:<\/span><br \/>\n4 T. (1\/2 stick) unsalted butter<br \/>\n1 \u00bd c. chocolate chips<br \/>\n\u00be c. heavy cream<br \/>\n2 \u00bd c. sifted confectioners\u2019 sugar<br \/>\n1 tsp. vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"redText\">For the filling and decoration:<\/span><br \/>\n1 \u00bd c. raspberry preserves<br \/>\nFresh raspberries<br \/>\nHeavy cream<\/p>\n<p><em>1.\tPreheat the oven to 350 degrees F.   Butter and flour a 13x9x2 inch cake pan.<br \/>\n2.\tIn a bowl, combine the chocolate, butter, and boiling water and stir until smooth.<br \/>\n3.\tWith an electric mixer set on low speed, add the remaining ingredients until just combined.  Do not over beat.<br \/>\n4.\tPour batter into prepared cake pan and bake for 40-50 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.<br \/>\n5.\tLet cake cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes.  Invert the cake onto the rack and let it cool completely.<br \/>\n6.\tCut the cake into cubes and let dry at room temperature for a few hours.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"redText\"><em>To make the chocolate fudge:<\/em><\/span><em><br \/>\n7.\tIn a saucepan set over low heat, combine all the ingredients and whisk until smooth.  Keep warm.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"redText\"><em>To assemble the trifle:<\/em><\/span><em><br \/>\n8.\tIn a large bowl, arrange 1\/3 of the cake cubes in a layer, spread 1\/3 of the raspberry preserves over the cake in a thin layer, and drizzle 1\/3 of the fudge.  Repeat with 2 more layers of cake, raspberry preserves, and fudge, decoratively swirling fudge over final layer.  Chill for 4-6 hours.<br \/>\n9.\tBefore serving, decorate the top of the trifle with fresh raspberries.
