It always seems to draw a bit of a crowd when I make an off-site landing. On this one, I was flying to pick up a missionary when the weather en route made a mountain pass impassable. I retreated back a short distance and landed on a gravel bar of a river. One advantage of a helicopter is that you can often find a place to land and watch the weather until it improves. Unfortunately this time the weather began to build around me and there was also a medical flight needed at another location. So I only waited about an hour before aborting this flight then went to bring the patient to town. The next day brought better weather to complete the original flight.
I very often find myself calling out to the Lord for wisdom in making decision. The rugged terrain and ever changing weather is probably the most challenging part of my ministry. These combine with the pressure of urgent medical needs or trying to get tribal missionaries out to town in time for commercial flights. We appreciate your prayers for the many decisions we make each day involving these issues of safety and priorities.
