We are settling in quite well here. We are very thankful for this wonderful house, even though it is quite large and we need to buy lots more furniture. We realized that in four years of marriage, we have never had to buy any of this stuff. We have always lived in furnished houses and everything else we received as presents from our wedding. So buying a fridge, bed, couch, tv, rugs, storage bins, hangers, towels, blankets, dishes and tons of odds and ends has been a bit stressful. Not only do we have to make a million choices, but we don’t speak spanish, so we can’t even get a taxi ourselves. It has been hard to rely on others, but great to see how the Body of Christ really comes together to help one another.
I have anxiety issues. There are certain things that trigger it. I realized this shortly before we moved to Colombia (well, actually I think Brion realized it, but either way.) There have been things here and there since we have moved that have brought on anxiety, as I think they would have for anyone moving to a foreign country, but today I was hit with something especially tough. To Philippians I went.
It is so good to sit and soak up the Word of God; to be filled with truth. I know that anxiety is not from the Lord. Fear is not from God and as a citizen of heaven, am I “conducting myself in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ” Phil 1:27? When I am filled with fear, self doubt, anxiety ect. how then can I point others to Christ?
Today my longing is to be torn between two worlds as Paul was. Is it better to be here on earth so I can share the love of Christ with others or would I rather be with Jesus in my heavenly home? While I am on this earth, I can bring the light of Christ to others, and I, like Paul, feel I have more “fruitful work” to do for Christ before I meet my Creator and King. But I need to remember that this is not my home. As fun as it is to set our homes to be comfortable and pretty, our treasure is stored up in Heaven. Our Savior is waiting for us. He has prepared a place for us. Boy, that sounds WAY better than going shopping again! :)
ps, to end a crazy, all over the place blog post, here is a video of our new place. Lots of stuff to add and organize, but here it is! House Tour
