I won’t get into all the gory details and I’ll try to be brief, but I’m running on severe lack of sleep these days, so I make no guarantees. You have been warned.

Jonah started running a high fever last Saturday. Over the course of the next few days he became very sluggish, stopped eating, resumed eating and then started throwing everything up. We knew he was dehydrated and therefor made the decision to take him to the hospital. Our good friend, Donna, called us a cab and took Jonah and I 40 minutes up North to a pediatric urgent care unit. The hospital was very nice and Donna’s friend Sandra, who speaks very good English, came to help translate for us.

They got us in, took all his vitals, gave him some pain reliever/fever reducer and decided to start him on saline and then proceed to sugar water. They did blood/urine/poop tests while they were waiting for him to receive his fluids. I was then delivered a HUGE lunch, which I thought was quite funny. It consisted of rice and beef, soup, a green bean salad thing, a dessert type thing and fresh juice. Way different than hospital food in the States.

Jonah slept pretty much the whole time he was being pumped with fluids. It was pretty sad just seeing him lay there, but I knew that we were doing the right thing for him. His tests all came back fine and the doctor suspected it was a gastrointestinal virus. After he woke up and nursed, the doctor told us if he kept everything down for an hour, that we could leave. And he did. We left the house at 10:30 am and got home around 8pm.

The next few days were still rough. No fever, but a rash covered his face and trunk and he was still sleeping all day, not interested in solid food and cranky. A week later and we finally have our baby back. He is eating, smiling, laughing, playing and staying awake more than sleeping all day. We sure missed his little personality and are so thankful that he wasn’t seriously ill, but just very dehydrated. Thank you to all who prayed.
