I was singing “All the Way My Saviour Leads Me” to the kids tonight (you know you’re a good New Triber when you sing your kids to sleep with Songs of Challenge). It hit me that the song talks about Christ leading us, being our guide, even cheering us…but what hit me was that the author chose the name “Saviour.” Christ, God the Father, Holy Spirit, Comforter, Jesus, so many names could have been put in that spot, but she chose “Saviour.” What stood out to me about that was the fact that the same one who won entry into heaven for us, is the one who keeps us going here on earth. God could’ve sent Jesus to die and rise for our sins, then just said… “Good luck until heaven! See you when you die!” But He sent his Holy Spirit to be with us while we toil through this life on a sin-cursed planet until that day. And not only is He with us and willing to help, but He WANTS that. He WANTS us to have peace, comfort, joy and love…not just once we get to paradise, but even now while we’re in this world of troubles He’s offering us all those things.
Wow! What a God that goes above and beyond in His gift-giving!
All the way my Saviour leads me; what have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt his tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide?
Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Saviour leads me, Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial, Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter, And my soul a thirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see
All the way my Saviour leads me; Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal, Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way;
