Kids.

October 26, 2015 by Cameron and Katy Pryor

We wanted to share some more pictures with everyone showing what we
have been up to the last couple of months. We realized after looking
through our pictures that the majority are of Calvin and Gracia and
their various activities. So enjoy this kid-focused update!

Building a “house” with the neighbor kids. They used rocks and rubble for the walls and apparently some sort of weeds for the floor. We had them stop playing with the weeds after they started having rashes. Nothing serious though.
School started the first week of October. At the opening ceremony we sang the national anthem as the flag was raised.
Spending more time with our host family. We have learned so much from them. Here, Katy is helping fill bags with Baobab pod juice to sell.
Katy had wondered what happens at the market when the train comes through, and she finally got her answer. A man walks in front of the train with a whistle and everybody moves off the track to let the train pass. A lady she was buying vegetables from later warned her to hop out of the way when the train started backing up.
Our first visitor from Dakar! Martine, the girl who used to help us at our old apartment. We had a good weekend visit with her.
Cameron is getting to know a lot of the neighbors, and learning about their lives.
Katy was buying fish at the market when the vendors asked if she could take this picture for them. The fish is very fresh and tasty.
We had a movie night with a bunch of the neighbor kids before some of them left for dorm school. Most of these kids are the children of missionaries.
Meet our trash donkey. Calvin enjoys hauling the trash down to him.
Our host aunt graduated from beauty school and we went to watch her final project, which was decorating for a wedding. The kids ended helping hold the train for the photos.
Back at our host family’s house for dinner.
Katy has been practicing cooking Senegalese-style, here is her first (successful) plate all by herself!
Continuing with language sessions. Cameron has moved on to phase 4 of the program.
Every Saturday, we spend the day with our family, cooking and eating a meal together. It has been a great time of fellowship and relaxation.
The kids spend almost every evening out in front of our house, exploring and playing with their neighbor friends.
The kids love getting a chance to talk with their friends back in the states over Skype!
Calvin waits to get his hair cut. He and the other boys later found a frog and they built a house for it, but it escaped.
Calvin likes having his hair short, its a lot cooler that way!
Sheep skins left over after an important holiday here. Families slaughter a sheep and eat it, remembering when God provided the ram to Abraham. The skins are collected and used for a variety of things.
More new friends!
The president of the parent’s association at the kids school gave a speech during the opening ceremony.
The kids are getting more and more accustomed to being at school. During break time they purchase snacks from vendors in front of the school.
Cameron bought a bike to get back and forth from downtown.
More time with friends. Learning to interact with people from another culture and in new languages is something that thats time, even for children. We want to continue to allow our kids the oppurtunities to do so. With God’s help, we know that He can guide them into this new world.
Lunch time is always a good time.
The kids are learning how to eat with their hands. It takes practice!
Making new friends at church.
We enjoy worshiping God with our church here. There are believers from all over Africa and the world, all meeting together.
Hanging out with our host family’s kids.
Our host dad, Gerald, is the treasurer of the church. Here he is giving the yearly financial report.
