Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! – Psalm 98:4
Music transcends words. Yes, words are vital in praising our Lord, but awe, gratitude, joy, sincerity, and reverence are all conveyed through more than mere words. They are seen in the attitude, heard in the music. True praise wells up from our soul and heart to reflect in our whole being, not our words alone.
Right now, singing is possibly my favorite part of church. I understand we are praising God together even if I can’t join in singing all the songs. Sometimes I simply identify the music as a song I’ve sung all my life in English. The funny thing is that I can’t come up with the English words while I’m surrounded by Spanish. Whether or not the music is familiar and even when I can’t pronounce the words fast enough to sing along, I am thankful for the opportunity to praise God with my Paraguayan brothers and sisters!
