Joy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One year ago things were quite different from today.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We had just welcomed the Brooks to Paradi and were enjoying the new dynamic to our team plus better coffee at team meetings.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Kyle and Hala were beginning their senior year of high school.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Vivian was teaching the younger girls.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Eli was on summer break from Bible school and saving to return for his second year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Chuck was neck deep in Old Testament scripture making sure he understood what was being said in a language he didn\u2019t know.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We looked ahead to another 2 years before us of ministry among the Ga\u2019dang.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Life was pretty good.<\/p>\n<p>Today isn\u2019t anywhere near the same.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is a loneliness in my heart and living room these days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The anxiety of what is coming over the next year creeps in all to often.<\/p>\n<p>Today the Brooks are back in the US going through some very difficult times with Danny being treated for cancer.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s completed 5 rounds of chemo and is heading into surgery this week on the tumour site to make sure nothing is left there.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s facing 6 weeks of radiation after his wound heals.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Their little family of 4 is going through some very difficult times.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We miss them terribly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We long for team meetings with coffee, smiles and laughter.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We miss the stories of the antics Izzy and Judah have found themselves involved in while adjusting to a new village.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We ache for the pain they are going through.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We wonder why them.<\/p>\n<p>Today Kyle is not with us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is living in Canada.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s working a job.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s learning to drive.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s becoming an independent young man.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s not here to make us laugh with his puns.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s not here to drive his sisters crazy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s not here to talk about life late into the evening when I\u2019m tired.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s not working under the house and coming in for mom to pull slivers out.<\/p>\n<p>Today Elijah is navigating life outside the New Tribes bubble.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s struggling to find his place.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To find a \u2018home\u2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s struggled to find work and direction for his future.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s where we can\u2019t help him learn to drive.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s attending family events as a young independent man without his parents in tow.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s looking to God for direction instead of his parents.<\/p>\n<p>Today Hala is occupying her little sister.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Teaching her to play games and showing her how to colour neatly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hala is making coffee for snack time and preparing meals.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s dreaming of her future away from Paradi.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s waiting to move on.<\/p>\n<p>Today Vivian is with her family in the US.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s finished 1 semester of Bible school and seeking God for her future.<\/p>\n<p>Today I am in the school room teaching the girls.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I struggle to find time to do the things I used to do.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019ve had to limit medical work to the afternoons as I just can\u2019t balance teaching and constant interruptions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I am loving watching the girls learn more and seeing them master new skills.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I am loving and hating teaching Beatrice to read.<\/p>\n<p>Today Chuck is over his head deep in lesson writing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s written 10 of 42 lessons in Ga\u2019dang.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s prepared detailed outlines of 12 other lessons.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s added 450 new words to his Ga\u2019dang word list that he didn\u2019t learn in formal language study.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>About 1\/3 of those words were totally brand new.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The others he was familiar with different forms of the word.<\/p>\n<p>Today Chuck tries to balance the termites that are having a meal of our house.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Seven<\/span>\u00a0floor joists are eaten out.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Several wall panels and plywood floors have been eaten hollow.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>An entire shelf of story books have been eaten.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He\u2019s lost days of work on lessons trying to keep our house together lately.<\/p>\n<p>Today we look forward to where we will be 1 year from now.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We look forward with excitement, fear and uncertainty.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In just about 10 months we will be heading back to Canada to start a different part of our lives.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Today we don\u2019t know what we will be doing or where we will live.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Today I try to not think about it and enjoy the afternoon thunderstorms and those who cook and clean for me.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Today I smile and enjoy putting a bandaid on a little boys cut.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Today I continue to work on my friendship with my laundry ladies 1 year old even though she won\u2019t remember me 2 years from now.<\/p>\n<p>Today is hard.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last couple weeks I have found some new-to-me music.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We aren\u2019t exposed to new Christian music very often over here.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>One of my favourites is \u201cJoy\u201d by For King and Country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>When everything weighs heavy on my mind and heart I find it easy to think that it could be worse.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We could be going through what the Brooks are going through.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We could be going through the death of a spouse.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But the Lord reminded me last night as I listened to this song again that I need to choose JOY no matter the circumstances.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even if life was more difficult and I was going through more than anyone else, I need to choose joy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Lord is with me no matter how difficult things are.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is the one that I need to depend on for my strength and joy not the thought that it could be worse.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In my playlist I also have Toby Mac\u2019s, \u201cI just need u\u201d.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is all I need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is all the Brooks need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is all you need.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>His love for me is abounding.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is always there.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I can depend on Him.<\/p>\n<p>This week I read Warriors Don\u2019t Cry by Melba Patillio.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In this memior of her life as a black teenager integrating a white high school in 1957, she is repeatedly told by her grandmother to read Psalm 23.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As I read it again today I am reminded that He is with me through these days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There is no need for loneliness as He is always with me.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I am comforted by His presence during these days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I pray you will be comforted by His presence in your life.<\/p>\n<p>Pray for us as we live with our hearts and minds in the past, present and future.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Pray we can be faithful in all He has before us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Pray that Satan won\u2019t have his way and discourage us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Pray that we keep clinging to the One we need that most that brings us
