Twigg Family Updates ~ August 2013

September 10, 2013 by Colton and Tanja Twigg

Dear Faithful Prayer Partners,

This month has been a full one for us. We have had the opportunity to do many things and have enjoyed learning along the way. We are even celebrating being here in Paraguay for 6 months. Wow, half a year has passed and we praise the Lord for His continued provision and blessing. We are truly enjoying learning about Paraguay; it’s language and it’s people. We want to thank each and every one of you for being involved in our ministry by praying for us and financially supporting us.

Ministry

Playing the game Clue in Spanish!

As you know we are in the culture and acquisition phase of our ministry. At the beginning of the month we (Colton and Tanja) both took our first evaluation to see what we have learned. We were very nervous as we didn’t know what to really expect and also part because we had a lot of words flying around in our head that we needed to remember. Despite the nerves the Lord gave us peace in knowing that He already knew what level we would be at. It took about a week for each of us to get our results back and we were very encouraged for only being here for 5 months. Colton reached Basic High and Tanja reached Basic Mid. Basic is the first level and there are 3 levels within each level. We are now working toward what is next. We haven’t set in stone what level we would like to reach next but would covet your prayers for us as we make this decision. We need to set some goals and start working toward accomplishing them. Please also pray as we try to juggle our time as studying can be very time consuming.

Reaching the Community with Medicine

Some of the many Serving!

On Saturday August 24th our church, Iglesia Bautista Getsemani, held a Medical Clinic for lower income individuals and families. Our friend Tania spent many hours putting this together; arranging for Doctors, Dentists, a Nutritionist and for prescription drugs to be donated. There were many from the church who gave of their time to come and help. The church was able to help about 50 people with medical treatment. We had one lady who came to know the Lord as her Savior. We praise the Lord for her tender heart to the Gospel and that we could be involved in helping our church with reaching the community for Christ.

A Week in the Life of Gideon

Gideon with his teacher, Profesora Grissel

I get up at 6:00 Monday-Friday to get ready for school. I go to school from 7:00-10:50 on those days. I’ve adjusted quite well to Paraguay thanks to the help of my friend Nadine. She speaks English & Spanish and is one of my very good friends at school. I have made many new friends including my other good friend Mateo . I know quite a few Spanish songs and like to sing them around the house. I enjoy going to school each day and learning new things about Paraguay. I know many words in Spanish and can now communicate with my teacher. This makes me very happy!! By knowing some Spanish, I can now correct my mom in her pronunciation as she goes through Spanish study. My favorite food here in Paraguay is Empanadas.

Children’s Day

On Friday August 16th Paraguay celebrated their annual Children’s Day. This is a day set

aside to celebrate children and how much they mean to you. Our kids thought it was pretty cool to have a day just for them. At their school they had many activities and even had happy meals for lunch with many gifts and candy as well. On Saturday, our church celebrated by hosting a big party for all the kids who were involved with Oansa and Sunday School. They had bounce houses, music, face painting, a devotional, food, and goody bags. Fun was had by all. This was an opportunity for our church family to love on the kids in our church. Kids were important to Jesus and as followers of Christ they should also be just as important to us. They look to us as an example of what it is like to be a follower of Christ.

Prayer Requests:
 Finances for appliances and future paperwork.
 For our study time and making goals for language learning.
 We are looking for a lady to help us with culture and language study.
 For health as we get ready to enter into Spring.

PRAISES:
 That we have been here for 6 months.
 We did well on our first evaluation.
 Our support has been steady.
 We may have another possible supporting church coming on board with us.
 Warmer weather is on the horizon.

Thank you so much for reading our updates and bringing us before the Lord in Prayer. You are all a Blessing to us!

For His Name and His Glory,

The Twigg Family
