On December 15th, 2012, the Senior Class of NTBI ended their time as collegiate students of the Word. Many of them are looking to the Lord as they continue with New Tribes Mission’s training and then to the foreign field. Others are looking to the Lord as they move back home and begin ministering among their current community. All of them have been transformed by the Word of God.
Yes, it’s true that they have completed the required homework and assignments, that they have taken enough credits, that they have flipped their tassel from the right to the left, but their time as students will never end. Especially their time as students in God’s Word.
I have been challenged by this myself. As an alumnus of NTBI, I have decided at times that my understanding of God’s Word was sufficient and complete. I did not make this decision and then verbally tell this to the Lord, but my thinking and choices showcased the evidence plainly.
The Lord is teaching me that if I am to walk in dependence upon Him, I must be in His Word. When I study what He has written, I am in effect saying, “What I think of myself is wrong and skewed. Who I understand You to be is not accurate. My wisdom is shallow and incomplete. The things I value in life are not based on reality. I don’t know what to think and what not to think about life, You, and myself. Lord, I am going to open Your Word and see what You have to say for Yourself. Transform my mind. Teach me how to think.”
How are you a student of God’s Word?
