To begin with we need to define a couple of terms
1. Reality: The quality or state of being real. True to life in actual fact.
2. Truth: The quality of being in accordance with facts or reality.
3. Objective: The nature of reality as it is apart from personal reflections or feelings.
Ultimate reality is with and of God. God’s reality is objective in that it originates with God and is pure not having been subjected to human reasoning. Only God Himself through the Holy spirit can guide us to understand His objective reality as He intends us to understand it. What follows is my attempt to define ultimate reality as I understand it.
Ultimate Reality: God, the God of Glory, God in three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: For us the ultimate reality is to see the Son through the Father’s eyes, see who the Son is to the father, see that which the Son is to the Father, what value and what worth is the Son to the Father. And then to see the Father through the Son’s eyes, see who the Father is to the Son, see that which the Father is to the Son, what value and what worth is the Father to the Son. This definition isn’t something static but reflects the eternal, ongoing reciprocal love of the Father and Son in the Godhead. This Ultimate Reality is brought to us, is to us, in Person, by the Person of the Holy spirit, who Himself is the Spirit of God and the Spirit of the Son. Who the Trinity is, is ultimate, true, objective reality.
Several years after I had noted down the above, I came across these ‘nuggets’ by Curtis and Eldridge. “The Trinity is at the Center of the Universe, perfect relationship is the heart of all reality”, and “We were made for glory, for the attention the Trinity gives to each other and we can’t live without it”.
Next post we’ll get to ‘the heart of the matter’
