May-June 2025

June 3, 2025 by Darcy

Dear PRAYing family and friends,

It’s been a super busy month for the three of us here in Sheridan—but a good and profitable month. I, Darcy and my translation team haven’t made a lot of progress on checking our Joshua draft, but have been busy with other things. As far as Joshua goes, we’re still working through the “boundaries” chapters 13 and following. We have been looking for some way to describe a “high plateau”. The church leadership are currently having meetings together and the team was able to get their input yesterday. Praise the Lord we now have a term for “high plateau” and hopefully as we continue to comprehension test this new terminology it will be understood clearly. We still have a couple of weeks to finish up what we are working on right now.

Oke and part of our translation team

The literacy module being taught by Rina and Dita at the missionary training center in Asia-Pacific wrapped up last week. The ladies did a super job passing on the material that they learned in the March-April workshop to the final year students. These students will graduate next month and enter the “partnership development” stage of being sent out to unreached people groups in Asia-Pacific.

April Workshop

In addition, the literacy workshop for the B people group in Kalimantan is drawing to a close tomorrow. The team faced many challenging hardships, but faithfully gave it their all and have successfully produced 4 primers, flash cards, post readers, teacher’s guides and other supplementary materials. They are ready to begin literacy classes among the B people group. This is just one step in the long arduous process of building a church in an unreached people group.

Oke sharing her testimony in church

Oke talking about the importance and purpose of having a literacy program in the tribal language

We rejoice that the E people group in Papua have begun the teaching program and around 14-17 people are studying 6 days a week. Pray for them as they absorb the truths of God’s Word which contradict the truths they’ve believed in all their lives. God will plant His church among the E people as they choose His truth over the lies of their ancestors.

We’ve had the joy of having most of my sister’s family come through Sheridan this month. They passed through here on their way to my niece Lillian’s graduation from Ethnos Bible Institute May 17th. We are so proud of her accomplishments. Please pray for the next steps for her as she desires to see God honored through her life in whatever way He chooses to use her.

Next month we will be in Bozeman, MT for 10 days for our Berglund family reunion and won’t be sending out an update. Instead we will be focusing on our family time together. We are really looking forward to that time. After that, I will be taking a couple of months away from checking Joshua to work on other Semandang Bible translation projects. I will write about that in a future update. We will be back to work on Joshua in the fall.

PRAISE AND PRAYER:

  • Praise God for additional national missionaries that will be graduating next month, having completed the training and been equipped with tools to serve Him in unreached people groups
  • Praise God for newly produced literacy curriculum in the language of the B people group so that they can learn to read God’s Word (eventually) in their heart language
  • Praise for Oke being able to help the B team produce those literacy materials
  • Pray for the message of truth to be understood and believed in by the E people group who are hearing it for the first time
  • Pray for wisdom and health for Lillian in the next few months
  • Pray that our family time together next month will be blessed by the Lord and bring His name great honor

We are so grateful for your partnership in serving the churches in Asia-Pacific. We trust that you will experience the richness of His blessing in your daily walk with Him,

Darcy, and Ron & Nita Berglund
