Because of Joy’s anatomy, she has had a really hard time getting enough oxygen while in a sitting position. Her home wheelchair reclines some, and she can sit in it for about an hour, long enough for physical theraphy.
But her travel chair had become nearly useless. She could only tolerate 5 to 10 minutes in it. Longer than that and her skin turned clammy and her respiration rate would become rapid. We could use it to transport her from the car to the church pew, but that was about it.
So for the last 6 months, whenever we were going out, one of us stayed home with her – either Dave, or Nathan, or me.
No longer! We found an adult wheelchair that fully reclined. We found it in an on-line auction, new in the box. Dave decided that if it didn’t work, we could resell it. So we bought it just before Christmas, and it arrived New Years Eve.
And it works perfectly. Without the headrest and the leg rests, it relines into a little bed.
What a great way to start the new year – with the ability to go places as a family.
