Ask about Brazil

April 11, 2011 by Dave and Ruth Brendle

IMG_0612Nathan plans to go on a missions trip to Brazil in June.  We had a yard sale recently as a fundraiser, and he netted enough to pay for his passport.

We’d appreciate your prayers for him.

Continue reading to check out the letter he wrote about the trip and why he wants to go.

April, 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

God provides opportunities to further His kingdom for His glory. I count myself blessed to be called to go on a missions trip to Manaus, Brazil, this summer. I will be going with Northland Church to serve the local people on the Amazon River. We will be on a boat, visiting the local tribes and providing medical care, painting houses, having Vacation Bible School for children, and above all evangelizing.

Being born into a family of missionaries means you grow up around missions and evangelism all your life. From the time I was young, I remember stories of people in faraway places, people that had never heard of Jesus, people who were living in spiritual darkness. From the time I was 8 years old, I wanted to be a missionary, because I realized that is what God wanted to do with my life. I couldn’t go to faraway places when I was 8 though; I had to wait till I was old enough to go. Well, this year, the time came. I heard God say, “Go to Brazil.” So I signed up.

Part of what I want to do as a missionary is to provide medical care for the people who are too far away from a hospital to get it. That’s why I am in the Academy of Health Careers at Seminole High School. On this trip, I’ll be able to shadow the nurses on the boat who provide medical care to the people along the river.  This is a great opportunity – a way for God to prepare me for His work in His kingdom.

In order for me to go to Brazil, I need to develop a ministry team – a group of people that will support me with prayer, a group of people that will send me their encouragements, a group that will support me financially and ultimately send me to Brazil. I need to raise a total of $2,450 for this missions trip, which  covers the flights, the visa, transportation, and lodging. I’ve already seen God provide the money for my application fee, and for my passport, and I’m excited to be learning what it means to have faith that God will provide.

Would you please prayerfully consider helping to send me and our team to Brazil? Any amount will go a long way, and be really encouraging. Please use the enclosed envelope, and make your checks payable to Northland Church. In the memo field, you should put my name and “Brazil trip,” but do not make the check out to me. You can also donate on-line if you would prefer. Go to http://donate.northlandchurch.net/nathan-brendle, complete the required information and submit. Your credit card will be charged. Please remember that should you choose to make a contribution, it is tax deductible and non refundable.Thank you so much for considering this. Above all, I would love prayer for this trip, not only for me, but for Brazil, for the people who are going with me, and the people I will be working with. This is a God -given opportunity and I would love to have you as part of my ministry team.

Love,
Nathan Brendle

I’m hoping to raise half the necessary support by April 15th, which is the deadline for purchasing the airline tickets!
