Look at me!

June 10, 2012 by Dave and Ruth Brendle

“Look at me!  Look at me!”  I’ve been sounding like a little kid lately.  Why all this giddy attention-getting?  Because after months and even years of not having much mobility in my left arm, I can use it again.

The orthopedic doctor told me on Thursday that the good news is that we’ve nailed the diagnosis – adhesive capsulitis in the shoulder; the bad news is that it takes 18 months or longer to heal.   An injection a month ago in the joint gave me relief enough to start physical therapy, and I’ve been amazed at the progress.

So I really am like a little kid… I keep saying to Dave, “Look, watch this,” as I do something that I haven’t been able to do for months.  Like smash a clove of garlic, or use my left am to steady dishes as I put them in the cupboard, or drive with both hands on the steering wheel.

Now to just have the discipline to do the physical therapy every day… for 18 months… and beyond!!!!
