7th grade skill

May 13, 2013 by Dave and Ruth Brendle

In 7th grade, I took an after-school class on sewing basics.  I have sewn ever since – to clothe my family, to give gifts, to beautify the household, to bless the high school band.  I haven’t done as much in the past few years, but someone at NTM knew that I sewed.  And when a need arose at the Tower, they asked for my help.

The Tower is the building where the NTM offices will be located.  Construction and rennovation are going on now, with moves planned as floors are finished.

So where does my sewing come in?  In the elevator!

The elevator is basically the only way to get construction supplies up to the higher floors.  Later when the move actually takes place, office furniture will be carried by the elevator.  So the nice, classy elevator walls need protection.  The construction coordinator bought furniture pads to hang as wall protection. The three huge pads needed to be sewn together. And an opening had to be cut and bound for the elevator controls.

I spent most of this past Saturday on this sewing project.  Never would have imagined that a skill I learned back in 7th grade would be something I’d use for ministry in 2013.
