Teens study Creation to Christ

February 14, 2011 by Dave and Ruth Brendle

Tom teaches; teens ready to respond
Tom asks, "So how does this relate..."?

Our son, Nathan, has been part of an “NTM and Friends Youth Group” for four years.  We host the kids about every four weeks.  Friday night, we hosted, and about 25 kids attended.

Their current study is Firm Foundations: Creation to Christ.  These kids are mostly MKs (Missionary Kids) who have heard the chronological teaching as younger kids. There are also other teens – the “friends” part of the group – who go to church, and know some of the stories.  For the MKs especially, going through FFCC as teenagers, is very different from when they went through it as younger kids.  They are like sponges, soaking up the truth.

Our son, Tom, taught them on Friday about the Passover Lamb.  I listened with amazement to hear their responses to his questions.  Sure, there were the typical teen goof-off answers, but amid all that, those kids knew the themes.

I hardly have words to express how I felt.

  • To hear Tom stating in his own words the phrases that I helped write.
  • To see teenagers engaged in reading Scripture, and responding to questions.
  • To hear teens talk about how God ALWAYS does what He says.
  • To hear them discuss God’s requirement of a blood sacrifice.
  •  To realize that there is such consistency in the lessons that although three or four different adults alternate teaching, the basic truths are clearly understood and reiterated from week to week.

It was absolutely thrilling, and humbling, to watch the truths from the lessons I’ve edited impacting lives.
