Following a module I taught at a campus where I disclosed a number of statistics in reference to people groups who never heard the gospel, a young lady approached me with a startling question.\u00a0 She said \u201cIf none of those people ever heard the gospel that would mean everyone from that language group went into eternity without knowing Jesus.\u00a0 If that\u2019s the case, why would we want to tell them now?\u201d<\/p>\n

Q-tip please\u2026 I couldn\u2019t believe what I was hearing so I asked her to repeat the question again.\u00a0 Oh, I guess I did hear her correctly the first time, though the question left me a little numb.<\/p>\n

If I were answering the question with a question I probably would have said something like \u201cWow, why wouldn\u2019t we want to tell them the Good News of Jesus\u201d but I knew the answer had to be unpacked in a manner that she could comprehend the necessity and urgency of the task.<\/p>\n

I inquired of the young lady if she planned on marrying and having a family someday.\u00a0 \u201cOh yes,\u201d she said\u2026 \u201cI hope to marry and I would like to have five children.\u201d<\/p>\n

So I said to her, \u201cWhat if your children were playing outdoors and one of them ran into the street and was hit and killed by a truck.\u00a0 You knew their death could have been prevented if you had instructed them of the dangers of playing near the road but you failed to teach them.\u00a0 Now wouldn\u2019t you want to teach your remaining children the hazards of playing by the road as well as preventative measures so they wouldn\u2019t experience the same fate?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her face went ashen and sullen. \u201cOh my,\u201d she said\u2026\u00a0 \u201cI see your point.\u00a0 But if no one ever told lost people about Jesus wouldn\u2019t God make another way for them to come to heaven?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNeither is there salvation in<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>any other, for there is\u00a0<\/strong>no other name<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong>Acts 4:12<\/p>\n

To say God has another means of salvation outside of the gospel \u2013the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, would make the cross of no effect.\u00a0 Jesus said \u201cI am the way, I am the truth, and I am the life.\u00a0 No one comes to the Father except through me.\u201d<\/strong> John 14:6<\/p>\n

The young lady looked at me and said, \u201cThen I have no choice but to go and declare the gospel to such ones who never heard of Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 She smiled and said \u201cI understand, I understand.\u201d<\/p>\n

How many Christians are there that have the same questioning attitude about why we must reach the nations\u2026 that it is alright to leave such ones alone, thinking they are happy the way they are?<\/p>\n

\u201cHow then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?\u00a0 And how shall they hear without a preacher?\u00a0 And how shall they preach, except they be sent?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 Romans 10:14-15<\/p>\n
