{"id":441,"date":"2021-08-18T09:56:56","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T13:56:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/?p=441"},"modified":"2021-08-18T09:56:58","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T13:56:58","slug":"we-love-meeting-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/2021\/08\/18\/we-love-meeting-people\/","title":{"rendered":"We love meeting people"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>We love meeting people but we\u2019re not so good at remembering names\u2026 <\/strong>especially when Joyce and I awaken in the morning and ask one another, <em>\u201cWho are you?\u201d<\/em>&nbsp; Well, ok\u2026 it\u2019s not gotten to that point (yet), but with the thousands of people we meet in our ministry travels it\u2019s just difficult recalling names.&nbsp;&nbsp; There is none so good as our Pastor Tim at Family Bible Church in Arizona when it comes to recalling names.&nbsp; Upon first meeting he\u2019s got your name and other info embedded in his brain forever.&nbsp; I really think he\u2019s hiding an Etch-A-Sketch in there somewhere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s amusing the number of people we meet who voice complaint about being unhappy in their jobs.&nbsp; They\u2019re gifted and skilled individuals across a broad range of careers and occupations.&nbsp; I get it\u2026 back when I was in the workaday world I worked at a large air conditioning manufacturer.&nbsp; &#8211;Right, a graphic designer by trade working in the air conditioning field.&nbsp; It was while working there I came to know Jesus.&nbsp; (No, Jesus did not work at our corporation.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Joyce and I were being discipled we were leading people to Christ and discipling them at the same time as we were being discipled.&nbsp; That\u2019s the way it\u2019s supposed to work\u2026Each One Reach One\/Each One Teach One.&nbsp;&nbsp; Amid this journey we became dissatisfied with our jobs because we knew there were people groups waiting to hear the gospel.&nbsp; Our study of the scriptures led us to conclude it was our duty to reach them.&nbsp; We had already set the wheels in motion to go to Bible college and then on to missionary training and language science school.&nbsp; But we couldn\u2019t leave just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The time leading up to when we <em>could <\/em>pursue equipping was probably one of the hardest waiting times in our lives. I became one of those voicing complaint about being unhappy in my job.&nbsp; <em>\u201cMy gosh,\u201d<\/em> I exclaimed to Joyce <em>\u201cI\u2019m working for a manufacturer who builds air conditioners and all the while people are going to hell.&nbsp; What good is an air conditioner going to be to them there?\u201d<\/em>&nbsp; I was miserable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026And I\u2019ll bet there are some of you reading this letter right now who could say, <em>\u201cYeah, I\u2019m not happy where I\u2019m at or with what I am doing.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp; Well, ok then\u2026 I get it.&nbsp; Like I said, I was there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m meeting more Christians nowadays who are not happy in their jobs.&nbsp; The majority have skills that could assist us in our efforts of declaring Christ among the unreached peoples of the world and establishing thriving churches among them. &nbsp;I actually began praying for God to make such ones, who voice complaint about their jobs, miserable at their jobs.&nbsp; You probably think I\u2019m crazy.&nbsp; Yeah, I know.&nbsp; \u2026But I also know if God wants them, or any believer for that matter, to use their gifts &amp; abilities to impact those with no opportunity to hear of Jesus, then it\u2019s going to be God prompting the heart and motivating such ones to get equipped to go.&nbsp; \u2026And didn\u2019t Jesus tell us to pray for Harvest laborers?&nbsp; Yes. He. Did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So why all this noise about the need for laborers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve been on the front line of ministry among unreached people and can tell you the need is great for such ones to hear God\u2019s story and the gospel.&nbsp; Oh wait\u2026 there are no front line ministries; it\u2019s all behind enemy lines in Satan\u2019s domain.&nbsp; The only way they will hear God\u2019s story and the gospel is if we do something about it.&nbsp; Many say they are willing to go &#8212; just like I took a crowd of people to a restaurant and told them I was willing to buy them a steak dinner, but didn\u2019t.&nbsp; You see, our willingness doesn\u2019t amount to a hill of beans until we do something.&nbsp; Paul said in 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 if we are convinced that Christ died for all then we\u2019re gonna\u2019 do something. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might be telling a lost family member about Jesus.&nbsp; It might be telling a lost friend, neighbor or a lost coworker about Jesus.&nbsp; \u2026And it might be going to an unengaged people group far beyond our homeland to tell them about Jesus.&nbsp; If we don\u2019t reach the lost, who will?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is why we make so much noise about the work and this is why we ask you to pray for laborers.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We love meeting people but we\u2019re not so good at remembering names\u2026 especially when Joyce and I awaken in the morning and ask one another, \u201cWho are you?\u201d&nbsp; Well, ok\u2026 it\u2019s not gotten to that point (yet), but with the thousands of people we meet in our ministry travels it\u2019s just difficult recalling names.&nbsp;&nbsp; There [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":276,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-441","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-uncategorized","7":"entry"},"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/441","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/276"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=441"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/441\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=441"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=441"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-hilt\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=441"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
