We have a great opportunity coming up at the end of this month to go with our Michigan home church to Papua New Guinea on a missions trip. It is really going to be a neat experience as it is combining our church family and our full time ministry with New Tribes Mission. Our church, Albion First Baptist, was asked to go and lead a New Tribes Mission field conference in Papua New Guinea October 8-12. To the left you will see a picture of our team!
A field conference is basically a chance for the missionaries in a certain region of Papua New Guinea to be able to come out of their tribal locations, and be encouraged and enriched for a few days. Kristi and I are specifically going to be leading the worship at this conference, as well as help out where needed with a Vacation Bible School for the kids and high schoolers. While we are excited for the entire trip, we are especially excited about the opportunity we have to go into a tribal location. We are going to be visiting the Dinnangat tribe. This is a tribe that has had missionaries in it for about 15 years, and already has believers and an established church. We are going to be in that tribe for about 4 days, working side by side with the Markley’s, one of the New Tribes missionary families in that tribe, and getting to worship with their tribal church! Our entire trip, including travel, is from September 29-October 16th.
We feel that this experience is really going to take our full time ministry at the Bible School to a whole new level. We often have students ask us what life is like over seas, and what everday tasks look like. For instance: how do you wash clothes, can you drink the water, what’s the house like, what is it really like living among tribal people. We know that these answers are going to be different for every tribe, and for every village, but now, at least, we will be able to say, “When we were in Papua New Guinea for a few days this is what we did.” We know that the Lord is going to use that in our ministry to help mentor up more students to go and live in these tribal locations one day and present the Word of God. How exciting!
