March 30, 2002 Update

March 30, 2002 by David and Shari Ogg

Shari Passes Her Final Language Check!

This week a consultant came in and we spent several days doing language checks. Our co-worker Lori Morley took her 3rd (out of 4) language check and she passed. Then Shari took her final check in the language and passed too.  She has worked hard for many years and lately it has been a real challenge doing language study with a baby to take care of as well as homeschooling kids in 3 different grades. Now she will be able to assist me more in Bible translation checking.

 Conference And School Testing

This week we are off to Highlands Regional Conference. All the NTM missionaries in the highlands will be gathering for a time of spiritual refreshment and fellowship. It is always a good time to connect again with our co-workers many of whom don’t live that far away but because of our isolated living situations we hardly ever get to see them. Also one of our teachers from our mission training center in Canada will be the speaker. His name is Bill Meerstra and he and his family were also our neighbors during our Jungle Camp training when we built little houses out of poles and plastic and lived out in the woods for about a month.

Following the conference the kids will all take standardized school tests from the US to make sure they are keeping up on everything with their homeschooling. After that we will return to the bush.

Computer Trouble Again

The computer that I (David) use for translation looks like it has died again. Several ports quit functioning as well as a large part of the hard drive is corrupted. Even after reformatting and installing from scratch (several times) it is still not working. It does the same even with different versions of Windows, and because of consulting with technicians, we know it is a hardware problem. Sometimes it can take months to get these things repaired. Please pray we can get if fixed quickly and that it won’t cost too much.

In Him,

David and Shari Ogg

(Esther, Simon, Rachel and Jason)

Praise and Prayer:

  1. PRAISE for Shari and Lori passing their language checks.
  2. Pray for a refreshing time at conference.
  3. Pray for the kids school testing.
  4. Pray for a speedy repair of our computer.

 This Week’s Teaching Highlights:

  • The shepherds used to build a protective fence and inside the sheep would be safe from harm. The shepherd himself would guard the door.
  • Jesus says He is the door of the sheep. (Jn.10:7)
  • Jesus says if anyone enters through me he will be saved. (Jn. 10:9)
  • Back in the days of Noah only those who entered into the ark through the one door were saved from destruction. But all those outside the ark died in the flood as punishment for their sin.
  • To enter in to enternal life you must agree with God about your sin and believe that only  God’s Sent One can save you from sin.
  • The door to eternal life with God is Jesus.
  • Jesus says: I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. (Jn. 10:11)
  • Isaiah 53:4-5 prophesied that the Christ would suffer in our place, taking on Himself the punishment we deserve for our sin.
  • The good works of the religious Pharisee did not help him.
  • Jesus says: I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (Jn. 14:6) Jesus is the ONLY way to eternal life with God.
