Dear faithful prayer partners,
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and partnership with us. This week began with an early airport run on Monday to pick up our speaker for the week. After which we (all the men) went out for breakfast to a restaurant right on the water. It was a really nice start to our week.
Seeing our coworker just returned from the US, Robin and I, along with our coworker Bill got around to each of the 9 families and gave an introduction to the evaluation we will be using for the end of the course. Since each of these families will be part of starting a church in the jungle somewhere, we will be evaluating them based on the qualifications of an elder in Timothy and Titus. They will be the first “pastor” / “elder” of their future church. So, they need to be qualified before we send them out there. It was very encouraging listening to each one share the work God has done in their lives, as well as their humility to acknowledge areas they need to grow in. It was a long week, with lots of meetings. But, it was also very encouraging.
Here’s some specific things you can be praying for this week:
Prayer Requests
- Last week was elder evaluations. This week is language evaluations. Our students are a bit nervous about these evaluations, since their orientation has been quite disjointed. Pray for contentment with where God has them. Pray they will be encouraged with their progress.
- This week marks the beginning of the last month for this class. We have a few of the families whom we have been working with on some specific things. Pray that we can see progress in these areas, so that they will be leaving us better qualified to be the “pastor” of the church they will be planting.
- Continue to pray for the next class coming. We still have not heard an official yes or no whether they are actually able to come. Their proposed arrival date is May 19. Pray for peace in the midst of waiting. Pray for clear direction for them and those still making decisions.
- Continue to pray for Caleb’s housing for this summer. We praise the Lord for our youth pastor who is coordinating finding a place for him to stay. Pray the Lord will provide something soon.
News
Managing the schedule and keeping things moving for this orientation class has been quite challenging. We feel bad for how many interruptions and distractions they have had. This coming week is no exception to that.
As we began to lay out the schedule for the evaluations, the original plan was for the speaker from last week to leave Friday, and the guys doing the evaluations would come on the flight coming to pick him up. They were going to be here from Friday until Wednesday. So, we laid out a possible schedule for those days.
Then, their flights got changed. Coming Monday leaving Friday. So we laid out a schedule for that. Then, their departure got bumped up to Thursday. So, we had to rearrange and fit everything into one less day. Then their Monday flight was delayed from morning to afternoon. More changes… Now they are talking about trying to extend their departure until Friday, so they can fit everything in.
Anyway, I thought you’d enjoy a little glimpse into one of the things that takes up some of our time.
Thanks for praying!
David for the both of us
