Don’t Let God Stop Working

October 10, 2021 by David and Robin Watters

Isaiah 62:6-7 Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord. Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth

Isaiah 63:7 I will tell you of the Lord’s unfailing love. I will praise the Lord for all he has done. I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel, which he has granted according to his mercy and love.

Isaiah 64:4 For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him!

I am reminded once again of the importance of prayer. Isaiah challenges those who pray to the Lord to not quit. Keep praying. Don’t give the Lord a rest until he completes his work!

I never thought about prayer being giving God work to do. But, it’s true. God, is committed to allowing prayer be what moves His heart, therefore our prayer is what gives Him work to do. God is not obligated to do what we ask. But, when we pray according to His will, and in alignment with His work and plan, it is giving Him work to do (Mark 11:22-24).

Isaiah 64:4 is true, “Since the world began, there has been no other God like you who WORKS for those who wait for him! What is the work that God is doing?

  • Phil 1:6 He who began a good work…
  • Rom 8:29 conforming you to the image of his son
  • Eph 4:12-13 to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ until we ALL attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…

My prayer: Father, this is the work you are doing today! For Israel your work was to make them the pride of the world… so that they would be displaying you and your character to heathen nations. Today, your work is making each of us individually into “little Christs. (Acts 11:26)” Eph 3:10 “So that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places…”

So, Isaiah says, “Take no rest in your praying. Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work.” As we believe God to do what He has promised, we will be able to repeat the words of Isaiah (Isaiah 63:7) and tell of the Lord’s unfailing love, and praise the Lord for all he has done. May we rejoice in his great goodness to His children, which he has granted according to his mercy and love.
