Throughout scripture we are instructed often to know, count on, and yield to truth (Romans 6) before we feel it to be true, or experience the truth of it in reality. In faith we can rejoice in what we do not see or feel. 1 John 2:27 tells us that the Holy Spirit abides in us. His work is to teach and remind us of truth (John 14:26). 1 John 2:27 tells us specifically that one of the things He is going to be teaching us is how to abide.
Andrew Murray said, “He will teach us how to abide. First guiding our will to a whole-hearted cleaving to Christ, then quickening our faith into ever larger confidence and expectation, then breathing into our hearts a peace and joy that pass understanding, He teaches us to abide, we scarce know how.”
“Believer, abide in Christ, in the power of the Spirit. We have the Holy Spirit to make the living Christ, in all His saving power, and in the completeness of His victory over sin, ever present within us. It is this that constitutes Him the Comforter.” May we become more and more occupied with Him.
Questions:
- How does the truth that the Holy Spirit will be teaching you to abide encourage you today?
- Have you experienced the Holy Spirit’s work of making the living Christ and his power and victory over seen, present in your life?
- In what ways are you learning to “abide” more?
