Gen 19:17 Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”
Gen 19:26 But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.
Gen 19:29 God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.
I pray for ___________________ today that the things of this world will lose their value and luster. That sin will be distasteful. I pray that ___________ will not be like Lot’s wife who, even after God told her He was going to destroy it all and to not look back, couldn’t leave it all behind. I pray that the things of God will be more valuable to __________________ than anything this world has to offer.
Prov 7:1-3 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart
You have said in Matt 6:21 that where your treasure is there your heart will be also. When the desires of our flesh and the world (1 Jn 2:15-16) are what we treasure, that is what will dominate our hearts. But, when You are are treasure, and we make your word the “apple of our eye,” then our life will be dominated by you. I pray ______ will make your word his/her treasure. That what occupies and dominates his/her life today will be your word and your will.
Matt 10:37-39 37 “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. 38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.
Anything can be an idol in our lives. Jesus made it clear than if we love anything more than Him, it is an idol and can distract us from serving Him. I pray for ______________ that you will show him/her the idols that distract him/her from complete devotion to you. I pray _______ will be willing to put those things at your altar and be willing to die to them, so that they will live for you (Col 3:5). I pray that he/she will be willing to lose family, children, things of this life and give up his/her life, in order to find life in you. As they do, may you honor them with great joy.
Matt 15:11, 18-20 it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person. 18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person.
Prov 7:1-3 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart
Lord we live in a world that is dominated by the “prince of the power of the air.” He is the one who works in the hearts of those who disobey (Eph 2:2) May ________ not be distracted by the things of the world today. It is not what goes into our mouth that defiles, but what comes out. But what comes out, what we speak, comes out of the treasure of our hearts. (Luke 6:45) Give ________ the strength to overcome the desires of the flesh and the world. (1 Jn 2:16-17) May what comes out of ________ ‘s mouth today be what will bring you glory, and not things that will defile and deminish your name.
