What Spiritual Gift has God given for me to thank Him and praise Him for in worship today? (Rom 1:11)
1 Peter 2:24 He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
What an incredible gift! Jesus personally carried my sin in his body on the cross. At such incredible expense to him. He was crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed! (Isa 53:5) And He did it all “while we were still sinners.” (Rom 5:8) While we were his enemies, He died for us!
Thank you Lord Jesus for your sacrifice. “Once again I look upon the cross where you died. I’m humbled by your mercy and I’m broken inside. Once again I thank you! Once again I pour out my life.
What encouraged me in my faith? (Rom 1:12)
Job 23:10 “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold”
Ps 111:2-4 How amazing are the deeds of the LORD! All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails. He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our LORD!
Ps 111:7 All he does is just and good, and all his commandments are trustworthy.
As Job pondered what God had done / allowed in his life (Job 23:10), he was able to look up and, in faith, believe God was testing him and purifying him like gold. (1 Peter 1:7) As I reflect on my life, I know these things are true, but I don’t ponder this enough. (Ps 111:2)
- EVERYTHING God does is for the purpose of revealing His glory and majesty! (Ps 111:3; Rom 8:28)
- His righteousness NEVER FAILS!
- ALL he does is just and good! (Ps 111:7)
I am not sure Job was resting in this when these words were written. He was still struggling with accepting what he believed to be true. But, these words are true none the less. Job 23:13-14 Once he has made his decision, who can change his mind? Whatever he wants to do, he does. So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny.
Father you promise us that “there is wonderful joy ahead,” (1 Peter 1:6) even though now, for a time, we must endure suffering. May you give us the same attitude Jesus had, “for the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame” (Heb 12:2) As Job believed God would purify his faith, may we face each situation with anticipation of how God is going to use it to grow our faith.
What spiritual fruit does God want to work in me and in those I share this with today? (Rom 1:13)
1 Peter 2:19 For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.
What did Peter mean when he encouraged us that God is pleased, when we patiently endure unjust treatment, because he is conscious of God’s will? Is it God’s will that produces the unjust treatment? What do we find as we move through the rest of this passage?
1 Peter 2:20-21 if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. (v21) For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example
Was it God’s will that Jesus patiently endure unjust treatment? What do we see in his example? Is 53:5 He was crushed, he was beaten, he was whipped, in our place condemned he stood, completely and utterly unjustly!
1 Peter 2:4-5 (v4) He is the living cornerstone of God’s temple… He was rejected by men, but chosen by God for great honor. (v5) You are living stones, God is using you to build his spiritual temple…
You are God’s living stones. He is / longs to use your life to build His spiritual temple. He is doing that through the testimony or your life in how you endure suffering. Through your patient endurance, God will build His church! Peter said, (1 Peter 2:15) It’s God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people.. (v18) slaves submit to your masters not only if they are kind, but even if they are cruel (v19) for God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment… (v20) if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you. (v21) For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example. May the picture of Jesus example inspire us to endure patiently!
1 Peter 2:22-24 He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
