Make God Famous (Oct 20)

October 20, 2024 by David and Robin Watters

Verses for the day

  • Ps 135:5-6 I know the greatness of the LORD— that our Lord is greater than any other god. The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.

Thoughts

In Job 23:13-14 Job complains to God saying, “But once he has made his decision, who can change his mind? Whatever he wants to do, he does. So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny.” In Job’s case these were negative words. He was looking at his life, and what he saw was painful, unfair, and uncomfortable. But, what Job said was absolutely right! “He will do to me whatever he has planned.”

Jer 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God does have a plan for us. And while that plan will and does most likely include pain (even in Jeremiah, the plan included 70 years of captivity Jer 29:10), Jeremiah reminds us that if we will wholeheartedly seek Him (Jer 29:13) He will be found. And we know, in the end Job did find God. In fact, through the whole ordeal, Job came to know God more deeply and more intimately than ever! (Job 42:5)

Prayer

  • Ps 135:5-6 I know the greatness of the LORD— that our Lord is greater than any other god. The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths.
  • I believe in your greatness. You are able to do anything you want! Whatever pleases you throughout all heaven and earth, you can do, and you will do. Just like Job said, Job 23:13-15 Once you have made a decision, who can change your mind. Whatever you want to do, you will do! Jer 29:11 This is your plan. A good plan, a plan to build not tear down, a plan to plant, not to uproot (Jer 24:6-7)
  • Ps 135:13-14 Your name, O LORD, endures forever; your fame, O LORD, is known to every generation. For the LORD will give justice to his people and have compassion on his servants.
  • Your name O Lord endures forever. Your fame is know to every generation. Lord, may you make yourself famous through our lives! I believe you can, and I believe that’s your desire!
