Your Word, our Delight (Oct 10)

October 20, 2024 by David and Robin Watters

Verses for the day

Jer 15:16 When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Father, Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Jer 15:19 This is how the LORD responds: “If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!

Prayer

Dear Father, thank you for your Word. (Jer 15:16) In it you give us our “daily bread.” In it, you tell us about ourselves, that we are but dust (Ps 103:14). But that you also created us to represent you. That your cherished ambition is to be seen, heard and loved because of what others see in those you created. Your love for us is the motivation for us to let YOU behave in and through our life, being the origin of your own image.

Father as we open your Word this morning, may we find it to be the joy and delight of our hearts. May we see it as an honor to bear your name. (Jer 15:16) Father may you lead us to deny ourselves, and return to you, so that you can enable us to serve you, and even greater, that we can be your spokesmen to proclaim you to those around us. (Jer 15:19)

Lord, please do not allow your children to be influenced by the world (Col 2:8) and it’s philosophy and human thinking. Instead, as Jeremiah prayed, “May you use them to influence the world!” (Jer 15:19) I pray your children will be “the praise of your glory” (Eph 1:12) because others see your glory in them. (John 14:9)
