Jesus Presence Calms the Storm (Oct 21)

October 27, 2024 by David and Robin Watters

Verses for the day

  • Mark 6:50-51 “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed”

Thoughts

I love the principle here. They were terrified.. Jesus says don’t be afraid, I am here… the storm continued, but once he was with them, the wind stopped. Shouldn’t that be how it is with us. Even when the storm is raging all around us, if Jesus is with us, He says, “Take courage, I am here.”

There’s an old song titled, “Sometimes He calms the storm” by Scott Krippayne that talks about this passage. The chorus says this:

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered peace be still
He can settle any sea
But it doesn’t mean He will

Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

Prayer

This morning I pray for those who read this that they will live in your presence (Rom 13:14). I pray that no matter what they face today that your presence will enable them to face it with peace. I pray they will not be anxious, but will commit every situation to you (1 Peter 2:22-23) I pray they will find in you the peace that passes understanding (Phil 4:7), a peace the world doesn’t understand (Jn 14:27) , but is available to those who put their trust in you, abide in you (John 15:5), and walk with you (Gal 5:16). I pray they clothe themselves with your presence today and choose to live for you and not themselves. (1 Peter 4:1-3)
