Reading: Psalm 75:5–7
Key Verse: Psalm 75:7 — “It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.”
Personal Reflection:
God decides who will rise and who will fall. He determines what touches my life. Ecclesiastes 7:13 asks, “Who can make straight what God has made crooked?” Deuteronomy 32:4 reminds us, “Everything He does is just and fair.” Rain falls on the just and the unjust—some see it as blessing, others as curse. The difference is perspective.
There are days when I feel the weight of stress, wondering why certain things happen or why certain paths are blocked. But Scripture reminds me: God is sovereign. He is not random. Even the crooked paths are part of His perfect plan. Like Laura Story’s song, “Blessings,” these are God’s blessings in disguise.
Scripture Insight:
Stress is often a matter of perspective. It can either toughen us or hinder us, depending on how we interpret it. Scripture offers a “broaden and build” approach—where joy, trust, and praise expand our capacity to endure and grow.
- “The LORD is my strength and my shield… my heart leaps for joy” (Ps. 28:7)
- “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1)
- “When anxiety was great… your consolation brought me joy” (Ps. 94:19)
- “The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Neh. 8:10)
- “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Prov. 17:22)
- “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace…” (Rom. 15:13)
Paul, Nehemiah, and the Proverbs all echo this truth: joy and trust in God build resilience. Even suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope (Rom. 5:3–4). Neuroscience now affirms what Scripture has long taught—stress, when faced with faith, builds strength.
Application:
Choose God’s perspective. Let joy and trust reshape how you see stress. Don’t avoid difficulty—grow through it. Learn to see it as God’s blessing in disguise.
Prayer:
Lord, You decide my path. Help me trust You when the way feels crooked. Fill me with joy and peace, so I may overflow with hope by Your Spirit.
Reflection Questions:
- What “crooked path” are you walking right now?
- How might God be using it to build your character?
- Are you viewing stress as a threat or a tool for growth?
- What would it look like to choose joy today
