{"id":1937,"date":"2025-11-23T15:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T05:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-watters\/?p=1937"},"modified":"2025-11-23T15:54:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T05:54:13","slug":"whose-story-are-you-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/david-watters\/2025\/11\/23\/whose-story-are-you-living\/","title":{"rendered":"Whose Story Are You Living?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>: 2 Samuel 16:5\u201312<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Verse:<\/strong> 2 Samuel 16:12 \u2014 \u201cIt may be that the Lord will look upon my misery and restore me to His covenant blessing instead of His curse today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Brothers and Sisters,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We all tell ourselves stories\u2014about others, about ourselves, about what\u2019s happening around us. But not every story is true. And not every story is our Father&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2 Samuel 16, we see three very different stories playing out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shimei\u2019s story: He curses David, convinced that David is getting what he deserves for stealing Saul\u2019s throne (vv.5\u20137). His version is bitter, accusatory, and blind to the Father&#8217;s anointing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abishai\u2019s story: He sees Shimei\u2019s insults and wants swift justice. \u201cWhy should this dead dog curse my lord the king?\u201d (v.9). His story is reactive, protective, and driven by loyalty\u2014but not necessarily wisdom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>David\u2019s story: He sees something deeper. \u201cLet him curse, for the Lord has told him to do it&#8230; Leave him alone\u2026 It may be that the Lord will look upon my misery and restore me\u2026\u201d (vv.10\u201312). David\u2019s story is humble, surrendered, and open to his Father&#8217;s refining work\u2014even through unjust criticism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scripture Insight:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of us interprets the moment through our own lens. Shimei saw judgment. Abishai saw offense. David saw opportunity for grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David doesn\u2019t defend himself. He doesn\u2019t retaliate. He entrusts his reputation and restoration to God. Sounds like what Peter said of Jesus in 1 Peter 2:24! This is the story the Father honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When you\u2019re criticized, or disappointed by someone, pause: whose story are you believing?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resist the urge to retaliate or defend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask: could the Father be using this moment to refine me?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose humility over retaliation. Let God write the ending.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prayer<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lord, help me surrender my story to You. When others accuse or misunderstand, teach me to respond with grace.
