Recently, two of\u00a0the\u00a0fields in Africa needed to merge their accounting systems\u00a0as the\u00a0books for both fields were being done\u00a0in one country\u00a0but on two different accounting systems. Since they\u00a0deal on a monthly basis\u00a0with six different currencies and\u00a0multiple bank accounts, it was no small task. An attempt was made to do the merge with\u00a0a few simple transfers, but\u00a0it was\u00a0quickly realized, when\u00a0some accounts were significantly out of balance, that help was needed. They contacted our programmers who informed them that they were not accountants and they should maybe ask me for assistance.<\/p>\n
They contacted me and said, “Help!”<\/p>\n
I said, “Sure.”, not realizing how\u00a0very brain-intensive this accounting project would be.<\/p>\n
They were able to email me backups of the two accounting systems and then we would set up an appointment to talk via Skype (a computer program that allows one to talk over the internet). The entire process\u00a0ended up taking almost two months (working part time), and each day I just had to pray to God for the wisdom for the problems that I needed to solve that day. I decided fairly quickly that we needed to fix it one small piece at a time.\u00a0 We were able to have fun doing it and it was nice at the same time to catch up with co-workers whom I had known in Africa. In the end, everything balanced to the penny, and they even ended up with an extra $175 from currency exchange!<\/p>\n
We are thankful that even though we are no longer serving in Africa, that we can still be a vital part of reaching the lost there!<\/p>\n
