How well do I know you? What is your reaction to my communication? Do we have shared experiences? What background knowledge do you have? Are you interested in what I am saying? Do you understand? Like a boxer responding to his opponent, we bob and weave, and duck and swing; trying to make sure we are understood. Think about it, and see what you do, the next time you converse with someone.
