Dawn and I have been eager to speed the process of going to the mission field. We have tried to move quickly so we would not be impeding the progress of the gospel to a waiting tribe (some have been waiting for a missionary for over 18 years!) So we applied to the field of Asia Pacific early, in October, hoping to have a confirmed plan in January or February. Unknown to us there were factors that would delay our necessary phone interview until the end of April, but since graduating from missionary training in December we have been planning and preparing for Asia Pacific anyway. Finally this week we got the email late Sunday night to choose a day for the early call. We chose the next morning.
Rising at 6:30 we were ready, huddled by the cell phone, waiting and praying in anticipation. When the phone rang at 7:03 we were greeted by the co-chairmen of Asia Pacific on conference call: Doug in Asia Pacific and Kevin in Michigan. They were as happy to talk with us as we were with them. Through the two-second delay in our electronic three-way call we were excited to find our gifts and desires for ministry synchronizing one after another with the needs and opportunities in this mission field. Homeschool, teaching, helping roles, church involvement, and our life experience in general all lined up with their expectations, which we were very glad to hear.
The time flew by and the call came to an end with them officially extending the invitation to us to join the Asia Pacific team and us officially accepting. Praise the Lord – two more green lights. Not only the official welcome, but a great phone call with our new leadership. Can you see the Lord’s hand in sending us? We can. We’ll go as far as he leads us. Come join us – there’s always room for one (or six) more!
