With each of the trips with my kids there were a few fun and special things in store for us – even though I didn’t know what they were when we started. Sidney and I enjoyed a couple rounds of tennis at West Fraser park while we were in Quesnel. We didn’t plan it but our marvelous hosts, the McKinnon’s, already had the racquets out so we took advantage of the opportunity to expand our court experience beyond badminton. Sidney caught on quickly and soon had me running to return his hits. We had so much fun we went back the next day for another hour or so, but that wasn’t the only the first surprise.
Sidney and I share an enjoyment of mechanical motorized things. My plan A to take in some motor sports actions didn’t pan out. But when I contacted our friends, the Bramans, to get together there was only one time and location available – Saturday in the pit area of Goldpan Speedway. Not only would we get to see our friends and take in some racing from the center of the action, but when we arrived the Braman family racing team was shorthanded – so Sidney became the pit crew for the two mini-stock race cars: changing tires, checking air pressure, filling gas between heats. I was recruited to direct race car traffic in the staging area. Terry even let me take a car for a few laps around the track. There’s nothing like the smell of rubber and av-gas on the weekend!
