Two months ago Nadia’s mom was diagnosed with cancer. This is the 5th time she has been diagnosed with this rare and aggressive type of thyroid cancer. Each time we have seen the Lord pulling her through despite the odds.
However, this time, the oncologist was very worried: they found tumours on both sides of her neck and this usually happens only when the cancer has already spread to either (or both) the breast and lungs. This type of cancer cannot be treated with chemotherapy, but can only be surgically removed or treated with a radium (radioactive) capsule the patient has to swallow. This last option is still thought of as dangerous and my mom has already been treated this way twice! However, the tumours were positioned in such a way that she would most probably be left paralyzed if they tried to remove it surgically…
Through all this, my mom continued to live: “in my weakness is my strength” that the apostil Paul testified about. Despite being weak, she continues as far as possible a as normal a routine as possible… She finds her strength and joy in the Lord! He sustains her and she trusts Him, no matter what happens. Like she said: “No matter what the end – it will be good!” She longs to go home to the Lord, but she loves life and us.
And so, a very difficult 5 weeks started in which she had to stop drinking her thyroid medication (she has no thyroid anymore and this means that without the meds, her metabolism nearly stops; kind of like her body goes into hibernation!). Her body started to retain fluids, she became extremely tired and even her mind became sluggish and slow. Still with humour and finding her strength in God, she still got up each morning!
Then the final test was done to find all malignant tissue in her body and to determine how strong the radium capsule will have to be… and they could find none – no cancer! The doctors could not believe it and insisted in more tests and scans. The result is still: the tumours are gone! On the scans one can still see the scar tissue where it once was, but now it is gone. The doctors – again! – are astounded and had to agree: this is a miracle.
How did this happen?
“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” The Lord does not always heal us physically when we pray, but sometimes – if this is part of His greater plan for us – He does. This time, He healed my mom because of the prayers of many people and specifically of a pastor and his wife who prayed over her according to James 5:14.
My mom’s testimony is an inspiration for us all, especially in thinking of our Mwinika friends – those that already believe and those that still don’t: “Miracles still happen, because our Father is All-powerful. However, the greatest miracle of all is not when He heals a broken body; it happens every time He heals a broken soul. I am still amazed at His greatness in healing a sinful person like me, from certain death into everlasting life! Saving and healing souls is still the greatest miracle of all.”
Thank you for praying for those miracles to continue to happen under the Mwinika people of Mozambique!
