Literacy – the first week

October 23, 2012 by Nadia Hattingh

We are mid-way in our first week of the fourth Literacy class we present to teach the Mwinika to read and write their own language! The students are very motivated and the candidate teachers are doing even better than expected!

The group of students are all able to read and write some Portuguese, so the pace is faster. Still, I find that they struggle with some basic things that we are able to catch with some pre-literacy exercises. We keep doing the Primer lessons to keep them motivated while we do some “fun” pre-literacy things before and after. 🙂

We have 13 people enrolled and hope that they all will be able to finish the course! We do not take big classes, since the students need much hands-on help. Please continue to pray for all of us as we learn and work together.
